Baška is a town on the Croatian island of Krk. It is surrounded by woodlands and many sand and pebble beaches. Most notably the 1,800-meter-long beach Vela plaža. The naturally fine sand provides, especially for children and non-swimmers, pleasure on the beach, because the sea level increases gradually. In the surrounding area there are 16 hiking trails with a total length of over 80 km.This cultural and historical center with its old stone houses and narrow streets, has been a tourist destination since the 19th century.

One of the region’s most attractive locations is undoubtedly the beach of Vela Plaža, the most popular with those who come to swim in the area. One of Baška’s symbols, and a key element in its landscape, it is 1,800 metres (1.1. mi) long and faces a crystal-clear sea. Many activities and entertainments await visitors there: restaurants and cafes are present all around it, and pedal boats, windsurf boards, beach umbrellas, and sun loungers are available for rent. Besides Vela Plaža, Baška is also home to more than thirty beaches. While many beaches may be reached on foot, some require a boat or taxi boat ride; the view from a distance which the last option offers, however, allows for a better enjoyment of the gorgeous local beaches steeped in peace and quiet.

Baška possesses three climbing areas that will equally satisfy those who are new to climbing and those who already consider climbing their lifestyle. The climbing area in Bunculuka is located on the very edge of the FKK camp above which the starting points of the Vela Luka and Mala Luka trails are situated; it offers ten climbing directions that are available throughout the year. The other two climbing areas can be enjoyed from March to December – Portafortuna has 61 directions divided into four sectors. The latest addition to Baška’s outdoor activities is the Belove stijene climbing area: it has not been entirely explored yet, and offers plenty of choice in terms of directions and day-long activities against the backdrop of an incredible scenery which is sure to make the experience truly memorable. The network of cycling trails begins right after the Krk Bridge and may be followed all the way to Baška, where both road and mountain biking trails await visitors to show them some of the most beautiful views they will ever encounter in their lives. Besides the 11 km-long trail from Zarok to Draga Bašćanska, which is suitable for beginners and families with children, there is a popular mountain bike route that leads to the “Moon Plateau”. The reason behind its popularity becomes clear after some pedalling: despite the route’s level of difficulty, there is a postcard view around every corner, as well as new vantage points from which to observe Baška’s many sights.
